HISTORY
John H. Morrison created the first Petroleum Directory to serve the Oil
Industry in 1944. Oil activity in Kansas was on the rise in the early
1940's with the promising new oil discoveries on the central Kansas uplift.
As new firms entered into the oil business, there became a greater need for
a source which would assist those ACTIVE in the industry in establishing
contacts.
In the beginning, John H. Morrison,Jr.(1913-1984) accepted a field
representative position with the independent Petroleum Association of
America (IPAA) in 1937. While selling memberships in Tulsa, Oklahoma, he
met his wife, the late Mary Margaret Mechling, who was then secretary to
the Executive Director of the IPAA in Tulsa.
Her father, Charles A Mechling, was well-known in the oil field circles
throughout Oklahoma and the mid-west as having invented the famous "Mechling
Wireline Clamp", which revolutionized cable tool procedures at the time. It
was not long before they conceived an idea of creating a petroleum
directory which would serve the Oil Industry of Kansas and the mid-west.
Reliability, has been a trademark for the MPD over the years. The prominent
petroleum directory has earned a reputation for being comprehensive,
up-to-date, and precise in listing individuals and industry-related
companies who comprise the oil and gas industry in Kansas. Respected
throughout the oil & gas Industry, the MPD has been nicknamed the "Morrison
Blue Book", "Blue Book of Kansas", "Original Blue Book" or the "oilman's
Bible" by those who have come to depend on the directory for easy reference.
National distribution has proven the acceptance and usage of the Original
Blue Book of Kansas. Though the directory concentrates on Kansas base
firms, oil and gas related companies from all over the U.S. who are ACTIVE
in Kansas and the mid-west are also included in the Listings. The petroleum
directory has grown in stature to become the most widely-used and respected
information source of those Oil related companies in the State and
surrounding regions.
The Directory is currently Owned and Operated by Mr. Chuck Morrison, son of
the founders.
